Samaritans present Gala Variety Show
Samaritans of Slough, Windsor & Maidenhead
are proud to announce they are presenting a Gala Variety Show to be
held at Norden Farm Arts Centre, Altwood Road, Maidenhead, on
Saturday July 12th 2008 at 7.30pm. Top professional
stars including Laurie Holloway and Janie Dee will be supported by
well-known local acts such as the Maidenhead Grimms Singers. A full
list of confirmed performers is available on request.
The evening has been conceived and organized
by Marie Hughes who is the Chairman of the Slough, Windsor &
Maidenhead Samaritans. Matthew Furber who is the Director of the
branch said "I am really grateful for all the hard work that Marie
has put in to making this event a realty. Although we are a part of
the national Samaritans movement each branch is responsible for
raising the funds necessary to finance their operations. For us,
this means raising a five figure sum every year just to be able to
continue manning the telephones at the branch for the benefit of
our callers. An event like this will raise vital funds towards our
ongoing running costs."
He continued, "Suicide and emotional despair
seem to be affecting more and more people, certainly if recent
newspaper reports are to be believed, and we hope that the work our
volunteers do will be able to bring some relief to those who are
suffering in this way. People can contact us by either picking up
the ‘phone and telephoning us or by corresponding with us by email.
Visitors are also welcome at our centre in Uxbridge Road, Slough,
to meet volunteers face to face. I can assure anyone who contacts
us that our service is totally confidential and
non-judgemental."
Tickets for this event are available from the
Norden Farm Arts Centre on 01628-788997 at £15.00 each.
