North West Region of Samaritans
Samaritans garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park, 23rd-27th July 2008
Our garden emphasises the fact that Samaritans are available 24/7 (365 days) for people who are in distress or suicidal– it is designed for day and evening use and symbolises life as a journey…..sometimes easy and sometimes difficult underfoot. Part of the garden is left untended (signifying that not all places are accessible) and that life is a balance between what is natural and what is nurtured. The garden will have public access and will be lit – the name of our garden being “Always There”. There are vertical structures in three materials which signify youth, middle age and old age and a water feature which is a calming influence and signifies life does not stand still.
We are running a competition for local hospices in the North West and the winning hospice will be awarded with the garden at the end of the show as a permanent feature in their grounds. We will re build the garden and present this to the hospice as soon as possible after the show. The “Always There” concept will therefore live on.
