24th July 2008
Ealing Samaritans’ main 24/7 event is a Samaritans Day
Celebrity Pub Quiz and Auction at The Plough Inn
in Northfield Avenue. Entry is free, and prizes and
auctionable goods have been donated by, among others, Riverside
Studios, The Body Shop, Fullers Brewery, Queen's Park Rangers
FC, Brentford FC, the Ealing-based English Chamber Orchestra,
renowned Gunnersbury silversmiths Braybrook & Britten, and by
several supporters of the appeal, some of whom will be there on the
night.
Samaritans volunteers will also collect donations during the
rush hours on 24/7 at several tube stations in the area.
Said Stephen Pettitt, Director of Ealing,
Hammersmith and Hounslow Samaritans:
“The 24/7 events offer us a golden opportunity
not only to raise much-needed funds for running the branch - which
costs up to £30,000 per year - but to reinforce our presence in the
local community and to explain and de-mystify what we aim to
do. I’m particularly delighted that we’re using the
occasion this year to launch our ambitious appeal to raise the cash
for extending and modernising our facilities in Junction
Road. The extra room we create will also be an invaluable
resource for other voluntary organisations in the area.
I’m very grateful to all our donors and
supporters and particularly to Andrew Durn, the landlord of The
Plough, for hosting the Pub Quiz and Auction on the occasion of the
opening of the pub’s new extension. We’re looking forward to
a night of great fun.
Our volunteers give so much to this community,
devoting many hours of their free time in order to offer
non-judgemental emotional support. They are very special
people. So I ask the community in return to help them continue
their often life-saving work. Any donation, large or small, is
deeply appreciated.”
Members of the Press are welcome to attend
both the appeal launch at 26 Junction Road, W5 4XL, and the
Pub Quiz at The Plough, 297 Northfield Avenue, W5 4XB.
